I admit it when I went to see Aladdin this weekend I was reluctant. I mean seriously who could ever fill the shoes of Robin Williams. He was and always will be Genie to me. that said there was much I liked about the movie and somethings I didn’t.
Disney’s Aladdin What I Liked And Didn’t Like About It
Let’s starts with the positive. The things I like about the new live-action Aladdin.
Whether it was the aerial view of Aruba or the closer town view the landscape was stunning. Seeing Aruba brought to life was breathtaking. Add into that the costumes, the CGI animals and the magic of Genie the visuals in this movie were just everything. Seriously the aerial view of Aruba was just stunning.
Yes, I did enjoy Will Smith as Genie. When he started out I wasn’t too sure I would like him but then he popped out of the lamp and there was something endearing about him. No, he no Robin Williams but he put his spin on Genie and got jiggy with it.
The music was wonderful. We got familiar songs and some had a twist added to them. Plus we got a new song that was very powerful and is my new favorite.
I think the best part of the whole movie was the two underlining messages. One was that no matter how much to change how you look or what you own you will always be you on the inside. The second message was that women are powerful, intelligent and should be heard.
So what didn’t I like.
No, I didn’t like him because he was evil in fact I wished he had been a little darker, a little more sinister. I really didn’t get an evil vibe from him. He was a little boring for me.
I admit she wasn’t my favorite, in fact, other than being a sidekick to Jasmine I wasn’t sure her purpose. I really felt she was there more for distraction than anything else.
