This is my favorite time of year. I love the decorations, the shopping and oh my the food. The food is so good. the smell of cookies, pies, and cakes. One of my favorite cakes to make is my grandma’s applesauce cake.
As a child, I can remember going to my grandmother’s house for the holidays. It was the best time ever. Grandma also had something special made for us kids to snack on.
Whether it was cookies or cake we knew grandma made our treats with love. When she passed on years ago I made sure to get her recipes because I wanted my son to be able to taste all the goodness I grew up on.
Of course with this recipe for my grandma’s Applesauce, she would have made her applesauce homemade but I have a special trick up my sleeve to make it taste just as good but a bit simpler.
My secret is using GoGo SqueeZ in the recipe. Just like my grandma’s homemade applesauce GoGo Squeez is made with 100% real fruit. Plus it doesn’t have anything in it you don’t want or need. It’s Vegan-Friendly, Gluten Free, Dairy, Nut, and Wheat Free, No Added Colors or Flavors, No High Fructose Corn Syrup and Non-GMO verified
Grandma’s Applesauce Cake Recipe
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 cup raisins
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cups applesauce
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Heat oven to 350ºF. Grease bottom and side of 12-cup fluted tube cake pan with shortening; lightly flour. Toss 1 tablespoon flour and the cranberries to coat; set aside. In a large bowl, mix 2 1/2 cups flour, the pumpkin pie spice, salt, baking powder and baking soda; set aside.
In a large bowl, beat granulated sugar and butter with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally, until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until smooth and blended. Reduce mixer speed to medium. Gradually beat in flour mixture alternately with applesauce until smooth. Stir in cranberry-flour mixture and walnuts. Pour into pan.
Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center of the cake comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan to wire rack. Cool completely, about 2 hours.
This cake makes a great addition to any holiday dinner or party. It also makes a great gift to give if you enjoy giving baked goods as gifts. Plus GoGo SqueeZ makes an awesome stocking stuffer for the little ones or big ones too.
What’s your go-to holiday treat? Do you have memories of baking with family members?
