Afternoon Tea at The Garden View Lounge

Garden View

Afternoon tea at The Garden View Lounge was a dream of mine for years. It was a wish my heart made and with a little pixie dust and some help from a genie it finally came true.

Disney has always been a magical place for me. I’ve watched my son sword fight with Captain Jack. My brothers have been proposed to by Cinderella’s step sisters. Husband has treated a room full of strangers to churros and mom has danced with Chip. There have been many more and now I add the Tea Room to my list of magical moments.

The Garden View Lounge

Located in the Grand Floridian hotel this tea room is located at the far end of the first floor. It is a small and quaint little lounge but it’s atmosphere is relaxing and welcoming. You are greeted by a Disney  cast member that will seat you at your table. Once seated your server will tell about the offerings.

The food was everything I had ever thought an afternoon tea would be. We had little finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and even english trifle. Everything I ate was paired well with a pot of chamomile tea.

The beauty of afternoon tea at the Garden View is that you can choose your meal package and the flavor of tea the occupants it. You can go simple like I did or go lavish with caviar. Drink a pot tea or have champagne. Whatever you choose this place has you covered.

Why afternoon tea

From the time I was a child I have had an affection for the English tradition of afternoon tea. My mother always said I was born in the wrong era and country. I say I am more Mary Poppins meet Mad Hatter but whatever the case I love the idea of tea parties.

So when I first caught a glimpse of The Garden View back in 1990 I was smitten with it. I told myself one day I would have afternoon tea there. I finally made that dream a reality a few weeks ago and it was everything dreamed it would be and more.

Jeffrey my wonderful server and cast member made my entire meal an experience I won’t soon forget. He even made my day by presenting me with a Princess Aura rose to remember the day by. I am still on cloud nine from having my Disney Dream fulfilled so completely..

Now if only the Mad Hatter or Mary Poppins were free for tea one day.

  1. I’m headed to DW in December and now I want to have tea at the Floridian! I’ll have to see if my daughter will go with me!

  2. Afternoon tea is really lovely. I think it’s a nice tradition that mothers and their daughters can have together. It will strengthen your bond for sure. It’s fun because you get to share stories over good tea and some lovely pastries!
